FDA’s BIG Announcement Shocks the VAPERS

The Vape Community was put into a great shock following the FDA’s announcement on tobacco and nicotine regulation requiring cigarette makers reduce the amount of nicotine in cigarettes.

Although the opinions were divided since some vapers aren’t huge fans of tobacco, the time extension given to process the PMTA’s (Premarket Tobacco Application) which included e-cigarettes once again united the Vape Community.

Accordingly, “the agency (FDA) plans to issue this guidance describing a new enforcement policy shortly. Under expected revised timelines, applications for newly-regulated combustible products, such as cigars, pipe tobacco and hookah tobacco, would be submitted by Aug. 8, 2021, and applications for non-combustible products such as ENDS or e-cigarettes would be submitted by Aug. 8, 2022.” – more here

This approach however does not apply to previous provisions related to e-cigs.

“This approach also will not apply to provisions of the final rule for which compliance deadlines already have passed, such as mandatory age and photo-ID checks to prevent illegal sales to minors. It also will not affect future deadlines for other provisions of the rule, including, but not limited to, required warning statements, ingredient listing, health document submissions, harmful and potentially harmful constituent reports, and the removal of modified risk claims, i.e., “light,” “low,” or “mild,” or similar descriptors.

In order to further explore how best to protect public health in the evolving tobacco marketplace, the agency also will seek input from the public on a variety of significant topics, including approaches to regulating kid-appealing flavors in e-cigarettes and cigars.” – more here

But according to YouTuber Grimm Green, this time extension is an opportunity to keep fighting for the vapers’ cause and keep educating people all over that vaping does in no way give direct harm to them. – watch it here

Although there have been several issues on the health risks of tobacco, and nicotine in the past, the FDA has announced a new comprehensive plan which aims to ensure that they have the proper scientific and regulatory foundation to efficiently and effectively implement the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb says

“…but nicotine in cigarettes is not directly responsible for the cancer, the lung disease, the heart disease that kill hundreds of thousands of Americans every year… yes it got them all addicted, and kept them addicted for the long term, and it got most of them addicted when they were still teenagers, but it’s the other chemical compounds in tobacco and in the smoke created by setting tobacco on fire that directly and primarily cause the illness and death, not the nicotine.”

“We must also recognize the potential for innovation to lead to less harmful products” – more here

This decision by FDA gave hope for vapers, and a chance to further shed more light on everyone around the world about vaping.

E-cigs banned in NY schools

With the increase in e-cig use among the teens, New York Mayor Andrew Cuomo signs a bill than bans vaping in both public and private schools.

It is reported that electronic cigarette smoking cases in high school students has doubled in 2014 and 2016. Cuomo said that by banning the use of e-cigs in schools, this law will close a “dangerous loophole.”

He adds, “This measure will further this administration’s efforts to combat teen smoking in all its forms and help create a stronger, healthier New York for all” – more here

Cuomo states that the new law will make e-cigarettes less accessible to kids. – watch it here

The law says school grounds include any building, structure and surrounding outdoor grounds contained within a public or private pre-school, nursery school, elementary, or secondary school’s property, and any vehicles used to transport children or school personnel. – more here

Meanwhile, this stirred up the critics claiming there is still no concrete evidence as to whether there are health threats linked to e-cigarettes.

UPDATE:

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb on an interview says that the

“overwhelming amount of death and disease attributable to tobacco use is caused by addiction to cigarettes… it’s exposure to harmful chemicals that causes disease.” – more here

No Vapes on US Inbound, Outbound Flights

E-cigarette (vaping) has been banned on both US inbound and outbound flights, dividing the federal appeals court.

To clear out confusion whether e-cigarettes were outlawed like traditional tobacco cigarettes, the US Department of Transportation officially barred e-cigarettes on flights.

On the other hand, The Competitive Enterprise Institute and the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives sued and alleged that the Congress’ “no smoking” statute wasn’t applicable to e-cigarettes.

According to Sam Kamzan, the institute’s general counsel, “Today’s court ruling creates a dangerous new rule for interpreting the law that allows the commonly understood language of the Congress’s 30 year-old-no-smoking statute to be stretched in a ban on e-cigarettes – even though e-cigarettes involve no combustion and produce no smoke.”
